Cry To Heaven - Anne Rice

A story of the boys who became castrati because of their ability as singers, and the men who used them. It follows one particular character and his relationships, as his master realises his level of talent, and acts to prevent puberty from taking away from his vocal talents.

There is also some detail of the Italian setting. It is not all shagging and singing, some conflict does arise, with the odd death.
