Robbins' Carpetbagger is a Howard Hughes type, an aviation tycoon and business whizkid who decides to get involved with Hollywood, as well. The story moves through the early twentieth century and different sections of the book are focused on different characters. He threw in plenty of stuff here designed to push the publishing envelope in the USA, so to speak, for the early sixties.
