I read this after the tv show came out. I enjoyed it, surprisingly. Probably having toured around the country a little and seeing some of the historical sites, etc., helped a bit with that, or all these three things combined into some sort of entertainment gestalt of Australian history.
The setting is Australian river travel, in general.
