In Hero Years...I'm Dead - Michael A. Stackpoole

Here Stackpole takes the Revenant character seen in his short story in Superheroes (and apparently his Champions games, too) and gives him a double origin.

A hero comes back to town, aging, slowing and has to deal with the daughter he doesn't know him and thinks him a waste of oxygen, her mother, his Lex Luthoresque supervillain father and all his old allies and mentors.

As well as the fact that now there is bidding by superheroes to fight supervillains and big money fantasy leagues with ratings based on their outcomes. Systems like that and supervillains means they are bound to be meddled with, Chaos style, given a much bigger plot at work.

Very good. Yet another fine novel that your garden variety characters didn't know what to do with.
