Trader's World is your classic 3.75 novel. Also a post-breakdown novel. Here after a nuclear war various geographic areas have rebuilt - or have moved into space in one case, supplying nuclear power to Earth.
The story follows a young boy who is found and brought up by the Traders. A smaller group that specialises in dealmaking and in being gobetweens. Complete with an artificial intelligence advisor. He is found to have potential and as an advanced trainee his group is sent on a mission and others solo to various areas of the world. 'Strine' as Sheffield takes the piss a bit, Antarctica etc. as he slowly works out what both his human and nonhuman masters have been setting him up for.
