Machine - Jennifer Pelland

Machine is a descendant of C. L. Moore's No Woman Born. In this case a woman is given an artificial bioandroid body while her organic body is frozen for medical reasons.

The process has philosophical and political opponents. What happens if you get a growing number of cyborgs of greatly extended lifespan and superior physical abilities?

The revulsion for this particularly noteworthy case doesn't help her adjust, and her wife is unable to handle it, leading her to seek out others like her and experiment with the functions and programming of her new body among others like her. Ultimately to decide if she can hope as mostly artificial.
