An encounter with a strange alien form of life leaves a group of early Saturn explorers very changed.
Later, post Solar System War their existence they feel is threatened by some whose memories are being recovered by a specialist - that they thought they had killed.
Problem for them in this second of the Cold as Ice series is that this specialist's young brother is a genius involved in the Puzzle Network and becomes allies with the large Bat as they work on solving this murder mystery.
