Imaginative but fairly plodding and somewhat obvious fantasy novel that manages to avoid your run of the mill for something more science fantasy. Which is generally a good thing. A higher technology level than that, complete with academics and organisations and your people with special abilities - pion binders etc. and our put upon protagonist who ends up going rather more Witchblade the tv version in an armoured suit.
