The Detachment - Barry Eisler
Now even assassins think this is beyond the pale and agree to help, even though the Colonel involved is as dodgy as a room full of Poison Ballers. Military spook type.
All of course is not as it seems as the foursome are forced to go on the run as the fake attacks and suicide bombings escalate.
Excellent work.

Requiem For An Assassin - Barry Eisler
Which shows that even smart guys can do dumb things. Hilger and what is left of his crew kidnap Dox as a lever to get Rain to perform some assassinations for them. All part of a greater do something about the oil plot involving suborning a port official.
So yeah, Rain wants to kill him. And that usually works, especially if the CIA and Mossad want him dead too.

Darkness Falling - Peter Crowther

The Last Assassin - Barry Eisler
Rain agrees and convinces Delilah to help. Things get messy when Midori and his son are endangered by Rain's existence as they are a link to find him. Yamaoto being hard to get to has to get drawn out of hiding by the good old make him think his business partner is out to get him trick.
So it is highpriced nightclub assault time.

Wind Slayers - Robert W. Walker
A special unit of cops gets some dangerous situations in a unit that bears the series name.
Their lead also had Internal Affairs and FBI problems. As well as wanting some vigilante revenge about the people that kidnapped his family.
Plenty is packed into this one - crimelords, assassins, dumb hoods, partners who are partners, shootouts, insane actors and their even worse mothers so the first two should have some interest, too.
This is the opposite of slow, despite the length.

Killing Rain - Barry Eisler
Things go pear-shaped when he is about to knock off his explosives expert target and the man's kid walks in on them. So he just does over a bodyguard or two and a couple of ex-CIA guys. Who are in league with Hilger from the last book.
So he and Dox have to try and get this done so everybody is happy and doesn't want to kill them - Hilger's mob, the Israeli gunman or the CIA.
Add in a newly found nuclear weapons expert of the bad sort to complicate matters.

Shades of Gray - Jackie Kessler and Caitlin Kittredge
To do so involves one of the good old methods - ask some of the less nasty villains rotting in prison for help. Which of course includes Iridium's father. Some flashbacks in his life are interesting, as well as the history of some of the Corp slaves and head honchos.
And it appears more help is out there to deal with crazed mutated people monsters.

Alexander of Macedon.
Yeah, that Great guy with the big black horse that took a fancy to taking over the world. First he has to survive being a kid and kidnapped into another universe that still has centaurs and minotaurs. Then getting Greece together with Parmenion's help so they have enough of an army to go and take the Persian Empire away from Darius.
All the while battling Chaos plots to take over Alexander.

Ghost College - Scott Nicholson and J. R. Rain
A couple as ghosthunters. With the woman providing the paranormal power and the bloke the support. Fairly lighthearted for dealing with the dead as the pair banter back and forth in this investigation of a young girl's spirit from old history of the school. So if looking for something breezy, a good choice.

In the midst of this an elderly academic, a navy seal, a young man, a young man and her young brother have to try to get to safety because they have something more important than anything else. A boy that has been bitten and not turned into a 'Jiiiiiiiihhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaad' moaning monster.

Therefore, they get to his hacker friend the old fashioned way. With a prostitute paid to turn his head.
As well as Japanese politicians that don't like him, the CIA still doesn't either. A supposed operation to help reformer politicians deal with Japan's endemic corruption is anything but. Gangsters and spooks and political leaders would rather the graft gravy train continue and a massive collapse happen hopefully after they are out of it than pain now that gets in the way of their profiteering.
Another woman in the picture, too, along with the old flame, plus a lot more expensive aged single malts along with branching out into less sexist killing as he and his fed cop friend look to gain revenge for deaths of colleagues.

The authorities have come up with an unconventional but effective way of controlling dissidents. Send them back a billion or so years into the past. A bit hard to escape from there, really.
When a new prisoner is sent back, the current top dog, an aging main with a recent serious injury has to try and hang onto his life, and work out what is up with the new guy.

BEYOND 33000 - The 2011 Fiction Season Coaches by score
In the Coaching Game, you only need 3 works edited to qualify. For coaching, anthologies and magazines count. There are 331 overall editors and teamups, with 94 qualifiers.
Gordon Van Gelder has stalled because FSF now only available on Kindle, literally and DRMed - can't use it on Kindle 4 PC. Desktop being where I read all the mags it is useless - and back issues may also disappear? Have a couple of issues of the no-story free one to look at, but those won't be added here. John Joseph Adams has a
Living Dead 2 anthology I haven't finished, a new Wizards and power armour books coming out. His climb from his current 10th spot will slow now that two magazines are one, as well. Andy Cox made a late season recovery with a few more Interzones appearing to enable him to hold down the current 7th spot.
