“Who comes?” asked one of them in the sort of voice that Grimes associated with sergeant-majors. “The Princess Shrla, with Drones Brrynn and Drryhr, and Earth-Drone-Captain Grrimes.”

Just add booze.

This entry in the Grimes series has a double dose of iconoclasts, with Grimes thrown together with Sky Marshal Una Freeman. It also highlights his talents for getting into strange situations - in more than one universe!

Their ship gets stuck, drive broken, and they become the subject of an alien exercise. With bicycles! Also, annoying robots. After they are left on the actual ground, of course. Strange bicycles not so useful in space.

Being the subject of behavioural experiments in a Robinson Crusoe situation is not much fun, but not easy to get out of.

The Noir Thriller - Lee Horsley

An academic history of the noir novel, whatever it was called. Largely only talking about the UK and US as you would expect.

It doesn't delve too far into theoretical super-nerdery, so reasonably readable, and certainly good for finding some writers and books of interest, too.
