The Rough Guide to Space Opera: Gary Gibson - Blue Tyson

Gary Gibson is a decent writer of science fiction and fantasy who has produced a small number of novels and short stories, including the New Space Opera Shoal Sequence, about a cybernetically enhanced woman who gains the ability to pilot a powerful ancient alien spacecraft. This old technology is much desired, and fishy aliens of great power try and manipulate people so they can not lose a conflict with an aggressive take no prisoners blast all planets (and stars) enemy. Very much in Alastair Reynolds territory, with the series getting progressively weaker as it continues.
