The Rough Guide to Space Opera: Frank Herbert - Blue Tyson

Frank Herbert was a science fiction author of around 20 novels and a reasonable amount of short fiction, some of the latter of which you will find online.

He is and will always be famous for the brilliant novel Dune, about a far future civilisation and the conflict between aristocrats and the native people on the harsh desert planet Arrakis, because of longevity and starflight enabling properties of the spice that can be obtained as a byproduct of the huge sandworms.

The story continues directly with the fall of the leader Paul in Dune Messiah, and with the rise of his later children and the madness of his twisted sister in Children of Dune.
