Between the Strokes Of Night - Charles Sheffield

Apparently this is expanded from an earlier version, given updated science.

Here Sheffield is speculating about travelling faster than light speed - and what people what have to do, to do with.

It hence involves monkeying with time, and subjective time.

For example, colony ships that have set out and undergone several hundred generations are met by people who remember the end of Earth thanks to the techniques used by the 'Immortals'.

Needless to say there are conflicts between the short and long lived, but that isn't the point, it is the travelling ability and N-Space and S-Space etc experiments that are the point of this novel.
