Live Without A Net - Lou Anders

Another fine anthology by Lou Anders. In fact, of the three I have read, this is the best at 3.58 (3.53, 3.47). Not sure whether you would call this a theme anthology, on a negated theme anthology, given the stories are to show futures with no cybepunk predominance. Some do have nets of various sorts that get destroyed for various different reasons, however, where others have purely organic technology developments. The latter includes the wild World War Two spy novella by John Meaney, that is the strongest work here. No bad stories to be seen, either, even though Michael Swanwick's penchant for the vignette seems to not quite come together, here. There is even one outright elves and entrail reading for real story, as far as the completely impossible futures go.

So far, it seems, anything Anders has edited is worth a read, and you can't do better than that.
