Great Science Fiction Of the 20th Century - Martin H. Greenberg and Robert Silverberg

The introduction mentions the editors were influenced by two massive anthologies available in book form in the 1940s, by Groff Conklin, and Healy and McComas. These were 800 and 1000 pages of small print, so packed full, apparently.

While this book is not quite that big, their aim was to produce something similar for the 1980s, with the publication of this book.

A good effort, too, this one comes out at 3.65, producing your 4.25 round up to 4.5 type of anthology.

Some excellent and lots of good stuff here.
