Virus - Sarah Langan

I picked this one up because it was mentioned in Interzone, and looked to be a shortish horror novel.

The only problem is that not much of that going in in the first part of it I read, or the rest I flipped through. In fact, not a lot going on, apart from what was happening between a slightly odd couple.

Definitely not for me.

We must have different tastes [grin].

I loved it.

What set it apart for me was that I thought I was reading a well written piece of Gothic fiction. It was the setting, and the descriptive writing that drew me in.

It wasn't until horrific things started happening that I knew I was in a horror novel, and by then I was too sucked in to back out.

Yeah, if you had have told me it was a lot more like a gothic novel, I would have avoided it, certainly.
