Magic Bites - Ilona Andrews

Mercenary magic Slayer.

A bit of a noir feel to this one, but with the protagonist a woman. Not a detective a such, but when a man close to her is killed she soon becomes a private investigator.

A reasonably short novel for these days, she goes and gets into some hardarse detective work and intimidation with the possible homage-named magic sword Slayer she carries. Just a touch of Stormbringer to this blade, it appears.

Werewolves, magical knights, or however, she is happy to draw down with whoever if they want to make her day.

No wasted padding here as she rushes through magic incident after magic incident, that may perhaps be too densely piled on for some, but I am presuming that is the feel she was going for, short, urban noir. With werewolves and vampire revenants, of course.

Nice to see someone penetrating vampires with edged weaponry rather than tongues, for a change.

I'd read another one, I think.
