Sword of Orion - Sharon Lee

I presume this is supposed to be a kid's adventure novel, with the 2 main characters being kids on the run with an uncle, parents were rebel leaders, etc., etc. Good enough for that, but very lightweight otherwise, barring a few gates and some fun ways to take out a space fleet. A few too many aliens talk like they just came off the set of the Dark Crystal, though.

I just re-read this book and looked on LibraryThing to see who else had it. Had to agree with comments that it's definitely not up to the Liaden standard in terms of depth. I can live with it as a YA book, but what I cannot understand is why NO ONE, not even the paranoid uncle, has figured out yet that Kay is carrying a tracer in that backpack his mother packed up for him, despite him saying it as clear as could be TWICE.
